He began racing Flat Track at a very young age and has moved through the ranks of professional Motor-cycle racing with much success. Nicky was crowned the 2002 AMA Superbike Champion before moving to the premier class of racing “MotoGP” in 2003 with the Factory backed HRC Repsol Honda Team. Nicky won his first MotoGP race in front of his home crowd at Laguna Seca in 2005. Heading into the last race of the 2006 season in Valencia, “The Kentucky Kid” had his chance to realize a life long dream. When Rossi fell on lap five, Hayden knew he only had to bring his Honda safely over the line to secure the title. This emotional photo captures the moment of realization and patriotism that is now etched in history. Nicky also raced with the Factory Ducati Team from 2009 – 2013 and in 2014 he moved back to Honda to race their RCV1000R machine with the Drive M7 Aspar Team. In 2016, Nicky moved to race in World Superbikes onboard the Honda CBR1000RR with Ten-Kate Racing. He finished the season in 5th place collecting one race victory in Malaysia and finishing on the podium another three times that season. An incredible feat considering the older machinery he was racing. In 2017, Nicky continued on with Ten-Kate on the all new RedBull sponsored Honda and competed in his last race on the 14th of May at the Motul Italian round in Misano.
