Large, extremely rare and beautifully framed limited edition’Artist’s Proof’ canvas on board print, depicting a portrait of a Lioness. This wonderful work, in an impressionist style, is entitled simply’Lioness’, and is by the Australian artist Rolf Harris b. The artist says of this piece. The Lioness looks totally alert and ready for action. She is tilting her head slightly to the left so the shadow falls over her eye, keeping the brilliant direct light out of her pupil. An artist’s proof is an impression of a print taken in the printmaking process to show the current printing state of a plate while the plate is being worked. The proof is checked and approved by the artist and, although in theory it is identical to the finished work, it is not included in the final limited edition print count. Artist’s proofs belong to the artist, are much more scarce and rare than a normal limited edition print, therefore more valuable, and by convention, the artist would not usually sell these at once.
