HARRISON RUCKER – LAZY SUNDAY – LARGE LIMITED EDITION LITHOGRAPH PRINT 63/950 SIGNED WITH COA ON BACK OF PICTURE. Other artists have called Harrison Rucker a poet with a paintbrush. Indeed, painting with a sure hand in lush, dramatic colors, he creates lyrical effects which awaken response in all of us who still delight in dreams. With broad glazes, rich impastos and a highly personal vision, Rucker achieves an extraordinary new romanticism. A prolific painter in acrylics, his talents for mood, color and composi tion are reflected repeatedly throughout his work. He is perhaps best known for the strikingly dreamlike, almost sur realistic tropical garden settings in which he deftly places a single serene and sensuous nude figure. The effect is one of total peace and harmony with nature. Employing an intriguing combination of vibrant light and dark patterns of color, Rucker creates a vivid illusion of depth that invites, even draws, the viewer into the picture. His nudes, at once sensuous and innocent, mystically express what Man, in his most tender dreams, desires Woman to be-and what she longs for the freedom to be. His brush cap tures not only the physical but also a remarkable inner warmth, tenderness and beauty. It was not until age 39 that Harrison Rucker broke with his past and pursued his childhood dream of becoming an artist. Drawing on his early training at Cleveland Institute of Art and Virginia Commonwealth University, he immersed Nimself so totally in painting that his personal style and direc tion quickly crystallized. Turner, Bonard and Vuillard are the masters that Rucker must aduires. Although he shares their world view, receiving his spiration from the same sources that inspired them.
