Extremely rare limited edition’Artist’s Proof’ print on aluminium, in a gallery frame. Created in a classical broken image style, this work depicts two naked women in baths, it is entitled’Water Jug (Two Nudes in Bath)’ and is by the winner of the Sky Portrait Artist of the Year 2014, Christian Hook b. An artist’s proof is an impression of a print taken in the printmaking process to show the current printing state of a plate while the plate is being worked. The proof is checked and approved by the artist and, although in theory it is identical to the finished work, it is not included in the final limited edition print count. Artist’s proofs belong to the artist, are much more scarce and rare than a normal limited edition print, therefore more valuable, and by convention, the artist would not usually sell these at once. Christian Hook was born in Gibraltar, and studied illustration at Middlesex University before working as an illustrator for Disney and later lecturing at the Royal College of Art. In 2014 he won the Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year contest, was awarded the Freedom of the City of Gibraltar in 2017, and his work featured prominently in the 2019 opening exhibition of Clarendon Fine Art Gallery in Hampstead. He now works as a full time artist, inspired by classical art and the broken image, depicting motion, time and the moments that occur between events.
